We just moved to this location, so you might need directions to help find us! If you’re coming from the direction of Planet Obstacle, get to Emma Oaks Trail heading east, then turn left onto Lake Emma Rd. Follow it around the lake, then turn right onto Greenwood Blvd, which will loop around a bunch of neighborhoods until it straightens out going north and turns into Rinehart Rd. Stay on that for nearly two miles, then turn left at the intersection of Timacuan Blvd. Our new office is across the street from the CVS.
How Much of Our Local History Do You Know?
Lake Mary derives its name from Mary Sundell, the wife of Reverend J.F. Sundell, who settled on the northern shores of the lake. Initially, Lake Mary was comprised of two small settlements known as Bent’s Station, situated on the north shore of Crystal Lake, and Belle Fontaine. These settlements thrived along the South Florida Railroad, which connected Sanford and Orlando. The area flourished as an agricultural community, attracting early settlers such as lumbermen, turpentine workers, and families from Fort Reed in Sanford who had received land grants.
Additionally, Swedish families, predominantly engaged in orange cultivation, contributed to the area’s growth. Lake Mary’s development accelerated under the stewardship of Frank Evans, a tightrope walker and chemist, who settled in the region in 1882. Evans played a pivotal role in establishing the first Lake Mary Post Office in February 1887 and constructing the original Lake Mary Elementary School, alongside numerous commercial and residential structures. In 1923, he founded the Chamber of Commerce and later served as a Seminole County Commissioner in 1926.
The city hall building was erected in 1946, and Lake Mary officially incorporated as a city on August 7, 1973. Notably, Lake Mary garnered national recognition when it was ranked as the #4 best place to live in America by Money magazine in August 2007. Today, the city boasts a rich history showcased at the Lake Mary Chamber of Commerce Building, which houses a captivating history museum.
